Aesthetic and functional
A piece of furniture is essential in the bathroom. Shower column, low cabinet or vanity unit offer great storage capacity for toiletries, beauty products, and towels. The mirror is just as necessary because it also plays a very important role! Beyond the fact that it is displayed as a decorative element, visually enlarging the space, it reflects our image and allows for beauty, facial care, makeup for ladies, shaving for gentlemen… In cabinet version, it also offers a nice addition of storage.
Choosing your bathroom furniture
Bathroom furniture is chosen according to the style of your bathroom, the number of users and the space you have available. While they are now very aesthetic and functional, they must also be comfortable to use. A piece of furniture installed too high or too low could cause muscle tension in the arms, shoulders and neck.
Dimensions to be provided for greater comfort and safety
Before choosing your bathroom furniture , you should draw up a plan based on the dimensions of your bathroom and your existing equipment, in order to get an idea of the type of furniture to buy, free-standing or suspended, large or compact, with drawers or doors, etc.
It is also important to remember certain points to respect
The first and most important aspect for your safety: electrical standards, which provide a distance of 40 to 60 cm between the electrical connections of spotlights or a lighted mirror and the sink or basin.
In order to move around freely in the bathroom and for optimal use, it is recommended to leave a space of 50 cm between the furniture.
It is also advisable to leave a distance of at least 70 cm between the shower or bathtub and the bathroom vanity unit. It would be a shame not to be able to get out of the shower or bathtub to dry yourself, reducing freedom of movement, just as it would be a shame to have to stand on the side of the unit to open drawers and doors so as not to get stuck between the equipment.
What height should be set to fix a bathroom cabinet?
You have invested in a floor-standing unit, so you won’t have to worry about the height since all bathroom furniture of this type has a standard height. On the other hand, if you have opted for a wall-mounted unit, the question must be asked!
What does the European standard say?
The European standard recommends fixing the countertop washbasin unit at 83 cm, a height measured from the floor to the drain. Instead, count between 85 and 92 cm for an adult of average height. Just know that 92.5 cm is the height not to be exceeded for maximum comfort.
Ergonomics
However, these recommendations should be adapted according to the size of the family, especially if it is particularly small or large. The height of the basin should therefore be taken into consideration to determine that of the furniture. So if your countertop basin measures 10 cm in height, the furniture should be fixed at around 80 cm.
The suspended bathroom furniture with integrated basin should also be fixed between 90 and 92 cm to offer you the greatest comfort in terms of ergonomics. Once the countertop basin furniture or integrated basin is in place, you can now define the height of the bathroom mirror. To do this, it is important to take several elements into consideration.
